For her excellent use of Mathematical vocabulary! Rosie used prepositional language to describe shape positions and explained to the class how the square changed into a diamond when it rotated. Superstar!

Overall Attendance

Reporting Pupil Absence

This is a reminder to all parents/carers that the correct way to report absences is to leave a message on the absence line answerphone daily. If messages are sent by email to the admin email address they will not be registered in time for the morning attendance and you may then receive a call from our attendance team.

Year 2: Postal Museum

On Wednesday, Lion and Dolphin classes travelled up to London to visit the Postal Museum. The children had various interactive sessions throughout the day, this included;

Postal Play Space
The children could roleplay being a postman/postwoman in the sorting office, post office and delivering letters and parcels.

Mail Rail
The Mail Rail is a small train which runs underground. Initially designed to transport mail, Mail Rail reveals the story of the postal service’s subterranean world beneath the streets of London.

Where they were able to explore the surprising history of one of the greatest of British inventions, the post – the beginnings of the earliest social network.

The Jolly Postman
Finally, they had storytime where they were read the story of The Jolly Postman by the Jolly Postwoman.

It’s safe to say that Lion and Dolphin classes had an amazing time at the Postal Museum. Big thanks to the parent helpers who came along to support us.

Persistent Absences

If your child takes too much time off school they will become categorised as PA or persistently absent.  Missing school will make your child fall behind in lessons and will impact on their academic progress and achievement.

Below is the percentage of children per year group who currently fall into this category.  If you are worried about your child’s school attendance, please do not hesitate to contact the school where we can work with you to improve this.

Towngate Theatre

Last weekend I had the absolute pleasure of watching Riverside pupils, past and present, in their Showbiz Show.

Their performances in front of a packed house on Saturday 4th & Sunday 5th May “wowed” the audience as they took to the stage at The Towngate Theatre, Basildon to perform in a fabulous show entitled “A Show for Connie”, which was beautifully choreographed by dance teacher, Alex, in memory of the dance school’s founder who sadly passed away recently.

In true showbiz style, everyone performed with smiling faces (and a little bit of sass) in performances of Ballet, Tap, Modern, Street Dance, Musical Theatre and Acro. They were all amazing!

It was truly wonderful seeing the excitement on the faces of the little ones in their first show through to the progression and confidence of the older children. They have worked very hard, but most of all, it is clear to see that they enjoy every minute!

Riverside’s Got Talent! If there had been a golden buzzer, they’d have certainly got my vote!
Well done girls, you are all stars!

Showbiz Studio

R attends a local dance school and has been practicing her ballet/modern/street routines for this particular show for 2 years and has worked so hard.

The show was at the Towngate theatre in Basildon and she performed in front of approximately 600 people.

The girls who participated in the dance show appeared in the shows program and it was the most amazing experience for them- from back stage access/costume changes/rehearsals/costumes made by a professional costume designer etc.

At the weekend, A and E performed at the Towngate Theatre, Basildon, in Showbiz Studio’s dance show. Their hard work in rehearsals paid off, with excellent performances with the highlight being E’s performance as the Mad Hatter and A’s as the Cheshire Cat.

Year 1: RSPB Rainham Marshes

On 9th May year 1 children enjoyed a fantastic trip to RSPB Rainham marshes. They took part in different workshops including pond dipping and plant investigations.

It was really lovely to see the children working together to identify the different creatures found in the ponds, taking part in nature hunts and mixing potions for bugs.

The education leaders commented on the lovely behaviour of the children from Riverside and how polite they were.
